Projects:

Gateways Upgrade

Description

Upgrading, beautification and signposting of main Barberton/Umjindi access intersections at General Street/R40 intersection (turnoff into Barberton and Emjindini) and at the R40/R38 road intersection (turnoff into Barberton and Bulembu road).

The project includes local tourism signage structures designed for commercial sustainability, including parallel and integrated tourism information facilities inter related with Interpretation Centre / Biopark and branded route road development projects (Genesis Route and Geotrail). May include formalization of hawker facilities in support of local entrepreneurs, subject to road regulations.

Concept designs

Designs were inspired by the rock art of famous outsider artist ("art brut"), Nukain Mabuza. Examples of his outdoor rock art can be seen at his home on the road between Barberton and Kaapmuiden. These intersections will celebrate the life and work of this local artist who achieved world wide fame and was only recognised locally after his death.
