Projects:
Eco-Heritage Town
Description
This project is aimed at preserving, maintaining and enhancing the heritage of Barberton. Given Barberton’s natural attractions and historical significance there is a need to pay special attention to the following areas of interest: the rich geology, biodiversity, cultural and historical heritage and variety of historical public buildings and heritage sites.
The project entails structuring and implementation of a series of interventions which have the aim of maintaining and enhancing the physical attractions of Barberton as a tourist destination and builds on other related projects.
Components of the project may include:
• an incentives program structured with the Umjindi Local Municipality for private owners to revitalize and maintain heritage assets;
• implementing such measures on publicly owned land by way of example and as catalyst;
• packaging of attractions for tourism;
• local signage and marketing material.
